Our mission trips
are organized with the purpose of bringing help and hope to communities outside the city of San José, especially those located in the rural and most remote areas of Costa Rica.
As Scripture says in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...". This command drives us to extend our hand to those who are far, in places where help is scarce, such as the Bribri and Cabécar indigenous communities, which are hours away from civilization. On these trips, we focus on community work and children’s programs, addressing both the material and spiritual needs of those who need it most.
Isaiah 58:10 reminds us: "If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday." Our purpose is to be that light in the darkness, bringing the message of love and hope that can only come from Jesus, who teaches us to love and serve others (John 15:12).
Throughout the year, we organize different types of trips, each with a specific focus to positively impact the lives of the people we serve. As we are taught in Proverbs 3:27, "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." This includes trips with young people, where learning and service are combined, so they can live out Christ's example by putting their faith into action.
We also organize sports trips, as 1 Corinthians 9:24 says, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?", promoting teamwork and unity while teaching Christian values. Additionally, during the Christmas season, we bring joy to these communities through the delivery of gifts, creating an atmosphere of celebration and solidarity, as Acts 20:35 invites us: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." We also make donations of clothing, shoes, toys, and food, providing essential resources for those living in difficult conditions, fulfilling the command in Matthew 25:35-36: "For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink...".
These missionary trips are not just about delivering material help, but are a valuable opportunity for participants to grow spiritually. As Jesus teaches us in Luke 9:23, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." By stepping out of their comfort zones and traveling to places where needs are greater, participants experience what it means to go the extra mile to serve others, following Christ's example who calls us to be servants of all (Matthew 23:11).
These experiences transform both those who receive help and those who give it, as they teach us the importance of empathy, generosity, and selfless service, as Philippians 2:4 teaches: "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."
At Metro Ministries, we understand that mission trips are much more than an activity; they are a way to impact lives, and plant seeds of hope and love in communities facing great challenges. Through these trips, we invite everyone to join our mission to transform realities, bringing not only material resources but also the message of faith that can change the future of these children and families in the most needy areas of Costa Rica.
As Matthew 5:16 reminds us, "Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
